Cervical cancer is caused by certain types of a virus, called human papillomavirus or HPV. All genital HPV types can cause abnormal cervical cells and abnormal Pap tests. For most women, the virus will go away on its own. But, for some who don't clear certain types of HPV, cervical cancer and other diseases can develop.

Did you know that Latinas/Hispanic women are the group in the United States with the highest rate of new cervical cancer cases? Everyday, about five Latina/Hispanic women are diagnosed with cervical cancer nationwide.
